we like to stay busy.

meet the neighbours

Meet the Neighbours is an annual free, fun and easy way to connect with people in the neighbourhood and enjoy Welland’s great green spaces. This year Meet the Neighbours was held at Station Street Park, close to Cool Licks on King Street.  Residents enjoyed games, live music, draws, pizza, face painting, t-shirt decorating, baseball and tours of the fire hall and the Niagara Region Health Bus.

family days

Family Days give families the opportunity to see the beauty of the Niagara Region - just by getting on the bus.
Family Days launched in January 2010, thanks to a generous donation from the Niagara Community Foundation.  In the fall of 2011, the program continued with support from the City of Welland.  In light of the economy and elementary school closures, families are offered the opportunity to visit events and attractions within the Niagara Region to strengthen family relationships and create community connections.  Family Days are monthly trips, provided to WNP schools, that give families a chance to interact with their kids and their neighbours while also travelling somewhere new and exciting each time.  Past trips have included the Americana, Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton Children’s Museum, Zooz, Rink on the Brink and Shorthills Provincial Park.  Our last trip, to the Americana, was attended by over 400 people.

Read to feed

Children and youth are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Welland to read books and earn Heifer bucks to purchase animals for families around the world through Heifer International. Read to Feed is offered as a daytime program in some of our schools as well as in all of our Fun & Games programs. Families are encouraged to participate in the program whenever possible to enhance family literacy skills.

fun and games

We promote healthy life choices through nutrition, exercise, teamwork and the development of life skills through our after-school programs, Fun & Games and the YMCA Youth Action program.

Shiny smiles

WNP offers free dental care in cooperation with the Shiny Smiles program, offered by Niagara College to children and families in need. Children are bused to the college where dental hygienists and dentists provide treatment and cleaning, free of charge.

step up to leadership

WNP is a catalyst for community conversation, connection and advocacy by training leaders to create positive change in their own communities.
